A Cooperative Approach to Affordable Teacher Housing

Housing affordability is a major factor in California’s teacher retention crisis. When teachers can’t afford housing near their schools, there’s higher turnover resulting in reduced academic performance for students.

We’re developing batches of ADUs as affordable units so teachers can live in the communities they serve.

Our Approach

Join Your Neighbors

We help form neighborhood co-ops, bringing residents together to create a new vision for their communities. Together we can build more affordably and make more of an impact.

Invest in Your Community

When teachers are rent burdened, schools face retention issues and students suffer. By developing affordable ADUs in your community, we’re investing in academic achievement.

10 Backyards at a Time

ADUs bring added density through urban infill to help solve the “missing middle” of housing. By producing multiple ADUs at the same time, we leverage economies of scale to lower costs.

Co-ADU develops batches of ADUs in order to provide affordable housing for teachers near their schools. Producing several standardized ADUs simultaneously within a neighborhood creates economies of scale, streamlines permitting and construction, and helps secure favorable rates from both lenders and subcontractors.

Housing affordability improves teacher retention which improves academic outcomes. This decentralized alternative model of teacher housing development helps densify neighborhoods without the large budgets and long timelines associated with traditional public-private multi-unit developments.

Let’s Work Together
